Lying there so still
Among the leaves of green,
This slender little reptile
Thought that it would not be seen.
But its presence was revealed
When its neighbor, the butterfly,
Led my gaze in its direction
And thereby caught my eye.
But when I reached down
To give it a pat,
It quickly slid away.
A delightful close encounter;
How I wish that it had stayed.
